Language Trainer 4.0

Language Trainer is an application developed with the specific aim of enhancing spoken language proficiency in individuals. Crafted by a certified speech-language pathologist, it serves as a valuable resource for addressing various aspects of language therapy, including vocabulary expansion, word retrieval, stuttering management, and both receptive and expressive language skills. This tool is particularly beneficial for speech-language pathologists and caregivers, aiming to streamline their therapeutic efforts.

The application encompasses four distinct activities: Picture Identification, Picture Naming, Divergent Naming, and Sentence Completion. The Picture Identification activity features nearly 300 high-quality images, allowing users to practice auditory identification of commonly utilized items. Following this, the Picture Naming activity encourages verbal production by requiring users to articulate the names of the items displayed. Divergent Naming focuses purely on expressive language skills, inviting users to categorize and name items within specified functions or categories. Lastly, Sentence Completion aids in developing sentence production by prompting users to complete various sentences, accommodating multiple correct responses.

All three activities—Picture Naming, Divergent Naming, and Sentence Completion—are equipped with an integrated audio recorder. This feature promotes fluency enhancement, self-monitoring practices, and constructive discussions regarding language skills.

Purpose

Language Trainer leverages technology to facilitate language therapy by presenting images, phrases, and sentences while simultaneously gathering data on user performance. It caters effectively to individuals with aphasia and specific language impairment, as well as English Language Learners seeking to improve their competencies in spoken language.

Data Collection

Upon completion of a session, users can easily access the reports section by tapping the home button. Selecting the client’s avatar leads to an overview of session data, which includes the practice date, activity undertaken, total attempted targets, and percentage accuracy achieved. Additionally, a Notes feature allows for the documentation of session-specific observations.

Reports generated by Language Trainer can be exported to The Therapy Report Center, thereby facilitating progress monitoring and effective report creation.

Customization

The application features a “settings” button on the user selection screen that allows customization options concerning the number of items displayed in Picture Identification and adjustments in challenge level based on user success in Divergent Naming. Furthermore, users can modify targeted words through the Modify Database option within the settings menu. Language Trainer offers backup data through iTunes, enabling restoration should the app need to be reinstalled or transferred to a new device.
